Serving Topeka since 1906,
beautiful Mount Hope Cemetery is centrally located on 160 acres
bordered by Fairlawn Road, Huntoon Street and 17th Street.
The main entrance is located at 17th and Sims where the A.B.
Whiting Memorial stands between the gates in memory of Albe
Burge Whiting and Kate Whitney Whiting. Through devotion and
sacrifice they planned and donated Mount Hope and Fairlawn as a
last resting place for the dead and as a source of perpetual support of
Christian education for the living. From this sacred trust no
individual can ever profit. All income from this property is
devoted to the expense of operation, beautification and
maintenance of the cemetery, and also the support of Washburn
University, the Topeka YWCA and the Topeka YMCA. Mount Hope
Cemetery was chartered in 1906 for one thousand years. |
